Peekaboo Bonnet

So.  I could not resist.

I bought Rae's adorable bonnet pattern.

And I have made several already for that little niece of mine.

Here is one on Mia.

She is the daughter of a friend at work.

Too cute.  Really.

This front view shows how much coverage it gives.

And even though Miss Mia is looking into the sun in this one

you can still see that its pretty deep.

tree skirt for christmas

My SIL asked for a tree skirt for christmas.

Ask and you shall receive:

I used Kate Spain's 12 days of Christmas in a Jelly Roll.

Sorted the strips by colors

Made a layout that matched from both ends to the center

Sewed strips together

Cut the big end of the triangles at about 18 inches

Flipped the strips over and cut another at 18 inches

(That's why the layout had to match from both ends to the center:

So that when I flipped and cut the triangles would still match up)

Sewed the triangles together

All but the last 2 so that there was an opening

Cut a whole from center, added a binding and whew.

Finished.

Lo's jams!

Extra super easy*.

I made these with flannel and Simplicity pattern #2326.

So easy that I really should have been able to make Derek's too.

But I have not yet.  YET.

*easy of you make sure that you cut enough pieces.*

For some reason I only cut 1 of 2 chest pieces.

I had a slight problem trying to get it all to match up :)

*and easy if you check to make sure that your childs head will fit through the opening before it's all sewn together.

Let's just say it's hard to find a way to find some space after the fact.

But I did.  It is not pretty, but no one knows.

Well, except you now. Shhhh!!

Well.  Here it is.  My Lickety Split Bag (mini).

I bought the pattern-super easy!

And adjusted the pattern for the mini version.

Grabbed some fabric-not as easy,

I wanted something simple and not too busy.

And started sewing.

I added lining to the outside side pockets

because the grey was just a bit too

"BLAH"

And added lining to the inside side pockets

because those little muchrooms were just a bit too

"HELLO".

I also changed the handle because I just dont like tie straps.

I love it.

And, Karen is having a Party!  A PJ Party!

I have Simplicity pattern #2326.

Finger Oven Mitts (a tutorial)

It might be my birthday (tomorrow!) But I have something for you!!  Have  you seen those really cute “finger” oven mitts? They just cover your fingers and your thumb (kind of like a puppet). Well-if you can find a tutorial on how to make them you are a much better web surfer than I am. To solve that-a tut for you by me!! I have read many a tutorial. Let’s hope I learned something. Feel free to let me know if something does not make sense and I will try to clarify :)

Supplies Needed:

4 pieces of fabric scraps
1 longer piece of fabric for binding/hanger 
Batting scraps


Make your template. (I will upload a basic one as soon as I can) in the meantime:

Make a rectangle 8.5 x 4.5* & round the edges. I will call this the “hand” piece.

     Cut 2 from fabric and 2 from batting

Make another rectangle 6 x 5* & round the edges. I will call these the “finger” pieces. (you will want this just a bit bigger so there is room for your hand!)

     Cut 2 from fabric and 1 from batting.

     Take batting piece and cut it in half making 2- 3 x 5 pieces.

Make a strip 25 x 2 ½ binding and a hanger (optional).

                *this size is based off of my hand, which is not all that big...so, adjust as needed  

                 

Take 1 hand piece fabric, wrong side up and place the 2 batting pieces on top.

Follow that with the other piece of fabric right side up. Makes a batting sandwich.

Take 1 finger piece fabric and fold it in half wrong sides together.

Place 1 finger piece of batting in between.

Press or pin closed.

Do this with both pieces.

To make the hanger

Take 3 ½ inches from your binding.

Press in half.
Open and press edges to the center, then fold and press in half again.
Sew along the open edge to close it.

Place the finger pieces on top of the hand piece (curved edges matching) and sew with a just-short ¼ inch seam. This allows for the binding to be sewn on and the stitches not show.

You can also add the hanger in this step in the middle on the finger side of the mitt. (I would suggest to not to put it on the outside of the mitt as it could get hooked on something inside the oven)

Trim any excess batting that was squished out during sewing. (Extremely technical, I know)

Flip binding over and using a zig-zag stitch finish the binding.

--Since binding tutorials are a plenty, I am too lazy to make one of my own. But I can suggest Amy’s tutorial from Diary of a Quilter. Yes, it’s for a quilt-but it’s the same principle. Since we are working with such small section of fabric, I use the straight seam not the diagonal.

And-TADA! Your very own finger mitt!

Long time no post...

Yeah, I know.  But, it's summer.  And I have a job and a life, too.  And, with this life of mine, I went to Montana to visit my BIL & SIL...

While there, I made my pregnant SIL drive me to a few LQS.  Check them out-they are soooo cute inside!!  Thimbelina's Quilt Shop & Back Porch Quilts.  I might be ordering stuff and having it shipped to my SIL, or see if she can pick it up for me :)

And, I think I might have recruited a future quilter.  While looking at all the great fabrics, my SIL said that she needs to pull out her sewing machine and give it a go.  WAHOO!!  She had used it just a few times...and I had to give her just a quick little run down of what the buttons were, but she whipped up a pillowcase in no time!  Can't wait to get some for Christmas!!

So sue me.  I had the best of intentions to post some pictures...but, well.

I have been busy sewing, sewing, crocheting, crocheting...little bit of house cleaning...some cutting to get ready to sew...

1)Hexagon runner.  I made it using this great tutorial.
2)Hexagon pieces that I will be making into a huge table runner.
3)Strips that will be made into a disappearing nine patch quilt for D.
4)A disappearing nine patch baby blanket for a gal at work. **Notice the brown patch in the middle?  Yeah, that's me and my great math skills.  I did not get enough fabric and pulled this idea out of my
head. (Ha!  Did you think something else??)  Anyway, very proud that I was able to make it work!!
5)Crochet Penquin (6 more to go for a penquin army for Lo...)
6)Crochet elephant (Pink one in the works)
7)And can you guess what these pieces make?  This. How stinking CUTE is he??

Hmmm...I think that is it. Isnt' that enough??
See, there is life after/during giveaways!  Next time though, I will make sure it's not a marathon post!

Busy!!

So, my house is a mess, but boy did I get some crafting done :) 
1) Made another heart wreath for my friend
2) finished fabric wreath
3) finished a quilt top & half of the binding on a baby boy quilt (picture to follow once it's done!)
4) hexagon flip (I am going to add on and make this on a table runner)
5) coupon clutch
6) pillow cases for the boys

Well, here it is.  I think I could have done better, but I think we are also our worst critic.  I followed this great tutorial and here is my finished** product.  It was super easy & pretty fun making something new :)

**OK, so upon further review...I really messed this one up...notice the 3 sections that are the same??  Yeah, they are supposed to be staggered like the other 3 sections...Oops!  I was so flustered when I noticed it that I put the topper somewhere and now I cannot find it.  It should be an easy fix since I still have the fabric.  We'll see.  I will probably just keep it and use it-who will know (except you??) HA!

Updates

Yes, I have neglected to update the blog for a while...but I promise it's because I have been busy (some of it's crafty...) like a new scarf  for a great friend for her birthday, and some kitchen towels too ( see ).

I have also tried my hand at knitting and crocheting dishcloths.  And, after crocheting the scrubbies, I have sadly realized that I did them wrong.  They are fine and work great, but I did them the hard way (duh, that's how I do things).    Pictures & links to tuts to come soon of the dishcloths.  Really fun and easy!

I also made some checkbook covers...too cute!
