And some for baby

Not my baby.  My BIL & SIL had a little girl in April.  Precious.   Seriously.  I wish we lived closer together so that I could see them more often.

And, since I can't be with them, I made them stuff for baby.

Here is a diaper bag that I made using Craft Apple's pattern that I bought at a LQS.  It was so much easier than it looks!

And some nursing covers I made using Diary of a Quilters tutorial:

And some too cute burp cloths.

Finger Oven Mitts (a tutorial)

It might be my birthday (tomorrow!) But I have something for you!!  Have  you seen those really cute “finger” oven mitts? They just cover your fingers and your thumb (kind of like a puppet). Well-if you can find a tutorial on how to make them you are a much better web surfer than I am. To solve that-a tut for you by me!! I have read many a tutorial. Let’s hope I learned something. Feel free to let me know if something does not make sense and I will try to clarify :)

Supplies Needed:

4 pieces of fabric scraps
1 longer piece of fabric for binding/hanger 
Batting scraps


Make your template. (I will upload a basic one as soon as I can) in the meantime:

Make a rectangle 8.5 x 4.5* & round the edges. I will call this the “hand” piece.

     Cut 2 from fabric and 2 from batting

Make another rectangle 6 x 5* & round the edges. I will call these the “finger” pieces. (you will want this just a bit bigger so there is room for your hand!)

     Cut 2 from fabric and 1 from batting.

     Take batting piece and cut it in half making 2- 3 x 5 pieces.

Make a strip 25 x 2 ½ binding and a hanger (optional).

                *this size is based off of my hand, which is not all that big...so, adjust as needed  

                 

Take 1 hand piece fabric, wrong side up and place the 2 batting pieces on top.

Follow that with the other piece of fabric right side up. Makes a batting sandwich.

Take 1 finger piece fabric and fold it in half wrong sides together.

Place 1 finger piece of batting in between.

Press or pin closed.

Do this with both pieces.

To make the hanger

Take 3 ½ inches from your binding.

Press in half.
Open and press edges to the center, then fold and press in half again.
Sew along the open edge to close it.

Place the finger pieces on top of the hand piece (curved edges matching) and sew with a just-short ¼ inch seam. This allows for the binding to be sewn on and the stitches not show.

You can also add the hanger in this step in the middle on the finger side of the mitt. (I would suggest to not to put it on the outside of the mitt as it could get hooked on something inside the oven)

Trim any excess batting that was squished out during sewing. (Extremely technical, I know)

Flip binding over and using a zig-zag stitch finish the binding.

--Since binding tutorials are a plenty, I am too lazy to make one of my own. But I can suggest Amy’s tutorial from Diary of a Quilter. Yes, it’s for a quilt-but it’s the same principle. Since we are working with such small section of fabric, I use the straight seam not the diagonal.

And-TADA! Your very own finger mitt!

What I made over Labor day weekend...

OK, so I have to admit that I have made a fire in a fireplace-

you know, when it has gone out and there are still coals...

but I had not made one "cold" while camping...

But I cannot say that any longer...BEHOLD!  FIRE!

Well, I have several things that are works in progress...and I am just a little twitchy because I kinda like to not have things be 'in progress'. I like them to be done.  But, they will be (someday)!

I am doing another quilt a long with Amanda Jean...

But I am stuck because I have no idea what I am going to make yet...

And, because I think I might be able to bust out a completed project...I am going to turn these Blush scraps into a runner...wish me luck for a quick turnaround :)

Quilts for kids finish...finally

I actually did finish these several weeks ago...but as you might have noticed I am terrible about posting pictures...but, here they are...I accidently ordered 2 quilt kits, and then added one from my stash...

Spring wreath!

OK, so I have seen a few wreath's online similar to this one.  There was one that used whiteclothes line. Cute!  So here is my version.  Totally on the cheap.  The YARN was the most expensive at $2.49.  And there is enough of it to make several more!  The styro circle could have been purchased at Joann's for $5!! WHAT!  And the wired ribbon could have been pretty pricey too.  Don't even get me started on the silk flowers. Whoa.

The real WHOA is that everything but the yarn was purchased
AT THE DOLLAR TREE!  WAHOO!

I don't think it could get any better than that :)

I just tied the end of the yarn around the circle and wrapped.  and wrapped. and. wrapped.  You get the idea.  D helped a little but quickly bored.  I tightened the yarn as I went because I am wound a little tight so everything I make is too :P  I am sure it would have gone a lot faster and still look extra cute if the yarn had a little breathing room.  Then I hot glued the petals on then the sunflowers.

The ribbon was the most difficult:  bow, no bow?  Then I just could not figure out what to do with it if there was no bow (I blame the late nights...) so, bow it is.

Can't wait for Easter-maybe I will do one with colorful eggs :)  The possiblites really are endless & easy!!
